Historical Note: Arthur Schoenberg was a Jew, who was a citizen of Germany. When the National Socialist regime assumed power in Germany, his German citizenship was revoked. Schoenberg's substantiated appellation to the authorities, not only are a historical representation of the pattern of hardships endured by German citizens of Jewish descent, but also reflect Schoenberg's attempt to adjust to the new regime. A high- ranking member of pre-Nazi German society, Arthur Schoenberg was treated by the National Socialist authorities as an average Jew, who by the Nazi racial standard was foreign to Germany and should be eventually eradicated from its soil. Arthur Schoenberg ended up in the Theresienstadt ghetto, where he died.
