Historical Note:

The Main Statistical Office of Poland was established on July 13, 1918, (GUS). The Main Statistical Office of Poland functioned on the premise of the governmental regulations adopted in October 1919 and June 1923, Professor Józef Buzek, historian and demographer was placed in charge of this department. GUS worked under the guidance of the Council of Ministers of Poland.

GUS began a series of publications Polish Statistics in 1919. In the course of 1919 --1939 they published 173 scholarly-analytical editions of this series, Polish Statistics.

The most significant governmental project conducted by the GUS was the First General Census of Poland in September 1921. The results of the First General Census were published in 23 volumes, comprising six millions entries.

The GUS undertook and successfully completed the Second General Census of population in Poland in December of 1931.
