Abstract

This Record Group comprised publications compiled by National Socialist movement before and after 1933 (when the NSDAP became a ruling political party of Germany).  A number of publications can be charcterized as popular Nazi propaganda narratives of antisemitic and vigorously anti-Jewish content. The other publications relate to the typical nationalistic glorification of German nation. A separate group of publications can be regarded as analitical works discussing the theory of National Socialism, for example the three volumes entiltled The National Socialist Revolution. Hitler's Mein Kampf is also included in this record group. Additionally, there is several publication of fictional character. This record group also contains a number of anti-Nazi monographs narrated in the earlier years of the Nazi regime in Germany and afterwards in Europe and in the United States. The authors were largely of German-Jewish descent.

Scope and Contents of the Materials

This Collection comprises thirty documents in the form of publications, such as collective works, monographs, albums, pamphlets and fiction literature. Dates of publication vary from the early 1920s to mid-1940s. Several editions are regarded as theoretic narratives, exploring the nature of German national ideology within the framework of the National Socialist doctrine. This record group also contains a number of anti-Nazi monographs narrated in the earlier years of the Nazi regime in Germany and afterwards in Europe and in the United States. The authors were largely of German-Jewish descent.

Biographical Note

NSDAP becomes a ruling German party and the major player in domestic and foreign policy of Germany since March 1933. Until beginning of May 1945, it held administrative, military and political power in Germany and in Germany-occpupied and controlled territories.

English translation, published in 1944 in Boston, MA, of the monographs penned by the German-Jewish author Konrad Heiden. Heiden, a member of the German Social Democratic Party, emigrated from Germany in 1933. Konrad Heiden was one of the earliest opponent and critic of the National Socialist regime. He rendered meaningful insight on the Nazi perspectives of the state and on ideological indoctrination of the German people.  He also authored A History of National Socialism. This narrative analyzes the role of Fuehrer through the prism of the National Socialist ideology. It views Hitler's political career and his role as a dictator through historical contextualization.

A Swiss-authored book about the relationship between the Swiss Confederation nad the Reich written by Alfred Zander.  The book was published by Verlag Grenze und Ausland, Publishing House Border and Foreign countries in Berlin in 1942.

Zander was a Swiss National Socialist and wrote about the relations between Germany and Switzerland.  The book was banned by the Allies after the war.

This book is not necessarily a piece of Nazi propaganda.  Peter Raabe was the head of the Nazi Department for Music, but was not an anti-Semite.  He tried to distances himself from the Nazi party.

Dalmatinischer Fruehling; Bericht einer romantischen Fahrt, Dalmation Spring; Chronicle of a Romantic Passage.  The book was written by Wolfgang Frank and published by the Hans Koehler Publishing House in Hamburg in 1936.

The novel includes a dedication that translates: "Edda v. Reuaif (?) with best greetings the book that we wrote 'together' on the 'Germany' between Hamburg and New York."

The dedication is then signed by Wolfgang Frank and dated 17 April 1936.
