John A. Maitland was a liberator of Ebensee concentration camp as a Private First Class (PFC) soldier in US 3rd Army, XX Corps, 3rd cavalry reconnaissance squadron.  In this collection are a Rolleicord camera used to document the liberation of Ebensee, copies of the photographs taken, Maitland’s dog tag, and documents which record Maitland’s involved participation in Holocaust commemoration as a liberator.

This camera is a Rolleicord Ia version 3 made by German camera manufacturer Franke & Heidecke, produced from 1937 until 1947. It was used to document the liberation of Ebensee concentration camp in May 1945.
