Mr. Gallup was born on January 29, 1921. Graduated from Redlands High School in 1937. He attended San Bernardino Valley College. Mr. Gallup lived in Riverside, California, both before and after the Second World War. From 1990 to 2008 he lived in Moreno Valley, California. He died on April 11, 2008.
From 1943 to 1945, Mr. Gallup served in the European War-Theater in the US Army.
His unit entered the Buchenwald concentration camp right after it was liberated. There they saw living people who looked like skeletons with skin as well as many piles of dead bodies. Gallup said that the stench of death was terrible. The company commander ordered a company photographer to take pictures and small prints of the photos were distributed to every man in the unit. The commander said, “Go home and tell people what you have seen. If anyone will not believe you, show them these pictures.”
The Gallup Collection is conditionally divided on the following sub-collections:

A card entitled "A Home Blessing" belonging to Clifton Gallup. The card contains a picture of a home setting as well as a poem, or a prayer.
A Home Blessing God bless this home With every worthy blessing: Love, Joy, and Peace and all else worth possessing. May kindness be the key to every act-- And fellowship be governed by tact-- May each one to the other be a strength And all be one in spirit till at length That atmosphere which makes home really sweet Shall make the circle of it happiness complete.
